About Orient

With its roots dating back to 1901, Orient Watch has specialized in the manufacture and growth of mechanical timepieces. Since 1950, Orient has been at the forefront of the production of mechanical watches in Japan. When it comes to watchmaking, Orient does not have an obscure history: Orient has been producing mechanical watches for more than 60 years. It is one of the top three watch manufacturers from Japan and produces 2 million watches per year. Frankly, it may be the biggest watch brand you’ve never heard of. All of Orient’s movements are exclusively made in Japan and no iteration in manufacturing is outsourced. The implicit value of possessing an Orient watch is that the only way to enjoy its tremendous quality is through ownership. Orient has always prided itself on the premise that its timepieces are a “watchmaker’s watch”-- a no frills mechanical watch that is robust and trustworthy. Our online reputation suggests that an Orient watch is reliable out of the box. This can be attributed to Orient’s undying dedication to mechanical watches. In the eye of the Quartz Revolution in the 1970s, the other top Japanese brands went on to predominantly manufacture quartz, while Orient remained focused on its mechanical movements. And while Orient does produce quartz watches, all movements are supplied by its parent company. So what’s the difference between quartz and mechanical? Despite the obvious difference in moving parts, the short answer is seen in the smooth sweeping seconds hand of a mechanical watch versus the choppy tick of a quartz movement. As an in-house movement producer, Orient joins a short list of watch companies that actually manufacture their movements in-house and exclusively for their own use. In the industry, it is highly uncommon that a company produces their own movements in-house, and by doing so Orient Watch can ensure that the quality of their wristwatches are held to the highest standards— Orient’s watches have often been lauded for their rich styling, dependability, and tremendous value.

SOME OF THE CUSTOMER REVIEWS ABOUT THIS WATCH [ SAMPLE ]

1) Best AT Citizen yet - I've had the Citizen Nighthawk for years and loved it. No issues. When I came across the AT9010-52e online, I couldn't fine it anywhere to physically try on. I have a small wrist, and was concerned with the bigger size. It is not that much bigger than the nighthawk! I was ready to pull the trigger here on Amazon since I did some research and wanted an Authorized Dealer. My local AD dropped their price for me from $475 to $400, so I ran back and purchased. It works great and looks amazing. It radio synced last night, no problem. Too bad my nighthawk won't get as much wear, and it is too inexpensive to try to sell, so will keep it in my collection. AT9010 for daily wear! Eco Drive, no batter, no opening the case, ever (well maybe in 20 years, I can accept that). Honestly, other then self-winding higher end watches like Rolex, etc., I wonder why most watches aren't Eco Drive, I suppose Citizen has a tight patent on it. If another brand needs a battery (my Tag battery replacement can cost anywhere from $20 - $75), turns me off a bit, Citizen is great.

I love Amazon and find reviews so very helpful, figured I'd be the first to review this watch, even though I didn't buy from Amazon. Google the watch and you will see a nice review as well as a YouTube review.

2) Great-looking, highly functional watch - I currently own a Citizen BL5250-02L, a Citizen AT4007-54E, a Citizen AT4010-50E, a Citizen AT8030-00E, and of course this watch, the Citizen AT9010-52E. I purchased and returned a Citizen AO9030-21E and a Citizen AT8030-18F, which is not available as I write this. I mention this only so you know I'm not new to these watches. I am not brand loyal and did not set out to buy only Citizen watches, but that's what I ended up with, because I could find no other watches that had the features and looks I wanted.

I wasn't prepared for how good the AT9010-52E would look. Pictures don't do it justice; I think it looks fantastic. The AT9010-52E looks good with any type of clothing.

The face of the AT9010-52E is easy to read. The bezel isn't overly cluttered, and the second hand is orange, which contrasts it from the minute and hour hands and enhances readability. The date is easy to read. The worst readability aspect is the day-of-week indicator, because the text is smaller, and because it's sometimes obscured by the hour and minute hands (as you can tell from the product image above) It's still easier to read than the day-of-week on my AT4010-50E, though.

Resizing the band of the AT9010-52E is quite easy with this inexpensive 16-piece watch repair kit. The pins come out easily, and there are no tiny tubes to get lost. The AT9010-52E band has only full-size links. By contrast, the AT4007-54E and AT4010-50E have full- and half-size links. The clasp on the AT9010-52E, however, has one side that allows for a half-size adjustment, by moving the spring bar. I originally removed two links from the AT9010-52E band, as I did with the other watches, and the end result on the AT9010-52E was that it was significantly tighter than the others. I had to add a link back and move the spring bar on the clasp.

The band doesn't rip my hair out at all, even when I put the watch on or take it off, or move it around my wrist.

You'll definitely notice the weight of the AT0910-52E, but it's not bothersome. I do prefer titanium, simply because it weighs little more than 1/2 as much as steel.

I live in North Carolina, yet none of my Citizen watches have any trouble synchronizing every night. And I don't worry about which direction they're facing or if they're near a window. It just works.

My AT9010-52E arrived with a fairly dead battery. It took a day of keeping it near a window to get it fully charged. In my experience, though, once you've done that, it's easy to keep the Eco-Drive watches running just from normal light exposure. This might not be true if you don't wear it frequently, though.

Highly recommended.
